AAI Integrations for IWSz and IWSd

AAI can integrate with the IBM IWS schedulers, to receive execution events, job definitions, and workload planning periods. AAI uses that to define jobstreams, forecast and track process executions that happen on the IWS mainframe, and present them with easily digestible visualizations and aggregations. AAI offers integration solutions for both the mainframe IWSz and distributed IWSd versions of IBM workload schedulers. Because you can integrate multiple instances of the IWSz and/or IWSd schedulers with one AAI instance, you can see running executions of more than one IWS system without having to switch from one IWS interface to another. Furthermore, AAI provides the execution data in easily consumable, interactive data visualizations and aggregations that you cannot get in an IWS scheduler.

What kind of data is provided?

Both the IWSz and IWSd integrations retrieve and deliver the following three types of data from the respective IWS scheduler:

  • Definition data: This includes primarily job definitions as well as other operations details, and calendars and periods that are defined in the scheduler
  • Event data: This comprises the details of job executions in the workloads that the scheduler manages.
  • Current Plan data: These are the details of the Current Plan of Operations in use by the IWS scheduler and tracking audit data for the previous Plan period.

With this information, AAI can accurately depict jobstreams runs and provide reliable predictions, alerting, SLA monitoring, and historical reporting, auditing, and analysis of jobstream performance.

What do the integrations involve?

The integrations for both the IWSz and IWSd rely on an AAI component called the IWS Connector to structure the acquired scheduler data for AAI and deliver it to AAI as well as get plan data for AAI as requests.

The IWSz integrations requires additional steps to retrieve data from the mainframe database and prepare it for the IWS Connector. These can be done in one of two ways:

  • Using a specialized AAI component called the IWSz Server for AAI
  • Running tailored JCLs for batch executions that extract the data that AAI needs

The required components and scripts for the IWSz integration are provided with the AAI downloads.
